MARK LEWANDOWSKI (BASS)
LIAM NOBLE (PIANO)
PAUL CLARVIS (DRUMS)
Fats Waller was one of the greatest and most enduring songwriters of the early jazz age. Bassist Mark Lewandowksi, originally form Nottingham, says his new trio aims to challenge themselves by finding ways of bringing such a strong musical identity into the 21st century while retaining the core values that his music stands for - swing, romance, humour and, most importantly, its social relevance. Mark says of this project "I want to bring the music of Fats Waller to people that will already be familiar with much of his work; however, I want to approach it in a very personal way which will show my admiration, respect and love for his work."
All About Jazz says, "the trio is instantly recognisable as a truly swinging unit".
"Underpinned by Clarvis's deft brush work throughout and Noble's vibrant piano, the numbers jump out at the listener...[and] the ballad "Cinders" ... offers Lewandowski an opportunity to turn in a rich and sonorous solo... this is a robustly attractive album and judging by this first foray, we'll be hearing a lot more from this talented bassist in the future. "
They are playing music recently released on Mark's debut CD titled Waller.
This homage to the music of Fats Waller, has Mark's interpretations of Waller tunes that include classics of the great American songbook such as Ain't Misbehavin' and Honeysuckle Rose.
